Job Description:

The post of Research Associate (post-doctoral) will conduct research in data analysis and computational modelling of neuroimaging data, as part of a project titled “The Self, Unbound: Neurofeedback-assisted Meditation for Eliciting Transformative Self-Dissolution Experiences” in collaboration with international partners. The project aims to build fundamental neuroscientific and computational knowledge to develop a neurofeedback system that enhances well-being following continued meditation practice.

The position is based in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus. The Department is renowned for its research excellence, having received top rankings in national and international assessments.

The research team at Imperial College London is focused on identifying biomarkers of meditative and transformative experiences and developing computational models that are biologically interpretable and replicate experimental results. The candidate will work with both computer simulations of brain activity and real neuroimaging data from subjects engaged in meditation and Altered States of Consciousness (ASCs). Prior experience with neural data analysis and modeling, as well as knowledge of complex systems theories applied to brain activity, is essential.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Dr. Pedro Mediano in the Department of Computing, along with members of his Machine Intelligence and Neural Dynamics laboratory, and other project collaborators.

Responsibilities include presenting research at top venues in computational neuroscience, complex systems, machine learning, and neuroimaging, as well as developing, documenting, and maintaining software and modeling tools related to the project.
