Job summary

Independent seeks a Research Associate in Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling for the SENTINEL project in Leicester. You will lead physics-based dispersion modelling and validation, using NAME, CALPUFF, and ADMS to benchmark AI forecasts.

Prepare meteorological inputs, design hindcasting experiments, and assess plausibility of predictions for regulators and public health agencies. You will join an interdisciplinary School of Engineering team, collaborating with UK Health Security Agency and Met

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in atmospheric science or related field.
• Experience with physical modelling of environmental processes.
• Experience with atmospheric dispersion models (NAME, CALPUFF or ADMS).

Responsibilities

• Lead physics-based dispersion modelling and validation for SENTINEL.
• Set up and run established atmospheric dispersion models (NAME, CALPUFF, ADMS).
• Prepare meteorological and geospatial inputs and design hindcasting experiments.
• Evaluate forecast performance against health guideline categories and odour reports.
• Collaborate with AI researchers and contribute to explainable AI analysis for regulators and public health agencies.
