Job summary

The University of Edinburgh is recruiting a Research Assistant to support the development of optical elastography technologies measuring biomechanics of cells, organoids and tissues. You will fabricate soft gels and perform measurements, under supervision from the PI and a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

You should have a biomedical or mechanical engineering degree and strong data analysis, reporting and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in biomedical engineering or mechanical engineering or equivalent discipline.
• Experience with engineering methods, gathering data using defined procedures, and performing computational data analysis with clear reports.
• Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with mechanical measurements, biomaterial characterisation, 3D printing or prototyping is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and mechanically characterise soft gels.
• Undertake biomechanical and optical elastography measurements.
• Support prototype assembly and testing.
• Collect, analyse and document research data.
• Contribute to research dissemination and engagement with academic and industry partners.
