Job summary

The University of Edinburgh invites applications for a Research Associate in the School of Engineering / CSE to advance cutting-edge work at the interface of soft sensing, robotics, and machine learning.

The role focuses on developing sensing and perception methods for next-generation robotic systems, with on-campus lab work and a strong emphasis on experimental validation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• PhD (or near completion) in robotics or a closely related discipline.
• Strong research experience in two or more areas: soft sensors, robotics, machine learning, signal processing, or embodied intelligence.
• Experience validating sensing, perception or learning methods on physical robotic or mechatronic systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research at the interface of soft sensing, robotics, ML and signal processing.
• Develop sensing and perception methods for physical robotic systems and validate experimentally.
• Work within interdisciplinary team and develop new research ideas arising from ERC project.
