Job summary

University of Strathclyde is seeking a part-time Research Assistant (0.2 FTE, 7 hours/week) for a fixed-term 12-month contract in the Department of Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management to support the EPSRC project on real-time digital twin assisted surgery.

The successful candidate will perform literature reviews, develop questionnaires, conduct surveys, collect data, and contribute to reports, publications, and teaching activities under supervision. Closing date 18 September 2026.

Qualifications

• MSc degree at minimum in a relevant discipline (e.g., mechatronics, mechanical engineering, AI or data technologies).
• Experience with literature reviews, data collection, and reporting results is desirable.

Responsibilities

A Part‑Time Research Assistant is sought to join the Departmentof Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management toundertake research in digital surgery within an EPSRCTransformative Healthcare Technologies project “Real timedigital twin assisted surgery” (EP/X033686/1)\" The ResearchAssistant will carry out research on surgical imaging processing.The Research Associate will disseminate project information andknowledge through journal publications and conferencepresentations and contribute to lectures, tutorials andlaboratories within the department, as appropriate.

As a Research Assistant, you will assist in the delivery of theresearch activities as part of a team, working under the generalsupervision of senior colleagues. You will conduct literaturereviews, develop questionnaires, conduct surveys, collect andcollate data, and undertake and record the outcomes ofexperiments. You will manage and prioritise your own workloadand ensure that all activities are completed to deadlines and youwill write up the results of your own research and contribute tothe production of research reports and publications. You willinput as a team member to administrative activities and assist,where required, with relevant teaching and knowledge exchangeactivities.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimumof Degree level in MSc in an appropriate discipline, and you willhave sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in mechatronics,Mechanical Engineering, AI or data technologies. You will haveknowledge of appropriate research methods, have an ability toplan and prioritise your own workload, with general supervision,and you will have an ability to work within a team environment.You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills,with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to presentcomplex information in an accessible way to a range ofaudiences.

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed fromcandidates with: a higher Degree in a relevant discipline, somerelevant work experience, membership/working towardsmembership of a relevant Chartered/professional body (includingthe Higher Education Academy), experience of relevant studentsupervision and teaching activities and experience of knowledgeexchange related activities.
