Job summary

London South Bank University seeks a Research Associate in Biomedical Engineering/Computing to join the Bioscience and Bioengineering Research Centre and support the international PROSPER study, developing AI-enabled endoscopic imaging tools to predict post-operative recurrence in Crohn's Disease.

You will lead on analysing endoscopic video and image data and develop deep learning models for automated feature detection.

The role

London South Bank University are excited to be recruiting for the post of Research Associate in Biomedical Engineering/Computing, to join the Bioscience and Bioengineering Research Centre and support the international PROSPER study, which is developing AI-enabled endoscopic imaging tools to predict post-operative recurrence in Crohn's Disease. Working with Professor Enrico Grisan, you will take the lead on analysing endoscopic video and image data - including virtual chromoendoscopy (VCE) and probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) - developing and validating deep learning models for automated feature detection.

This full-time, one-year post offers the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to the multimodal integration of endoscopic imaging with histology and clinical data, working towards a fused AI assessment system, within a large international consortium of gastroenterologists, pathologists and AI engineers spanning centres including University College Cork and KU Leuven.

What you will bring

The ideal candidate will:

  • A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with demonstrable experience in medical image and/or video analysis.
  • Strong practical skills in deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch/TensorFlow) and a track record of applying computer vision methods to clinical or biological imaging data.
  • Experience working with endoscopy data and/or digital pathology
  • Experience working with multimodal data, and an interest in fusing imaging with other data types such as histology and clinical records.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a large, multidisciplinary, international research consortium.
