Job description

Faculty of Medicine and Health

Do you have a passion for applied mental health care research and research-informed education? Are you eager to work with world-leading professors in applied health and care research and contribute to translating this knowledge into undergraduate and postgraduate education? Do you want to further your career at one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

We are seeking a Research Assistant (Mental Health) to support a 30-month research project exploring incidents and staffing on adult acute mental health wards: the #StaffedWards project. The School of Healthcare fosters a community of dynamic and successful applied health and social care researchers committed to making a positive impact on the lives of service users, caregivers, and health professionals, including contributing to research-led education.

The Quality and Safety research theme is interdisciplinary, focusing on high-quality applied research to enhance the quality and safety of health and care services. Our research addresses questions relevant to communities, patients, families, health and social care professionals, organizations, educators, and policymakers.

Applicants should have a degree, preferably complemented by a Master’s qualification with formal research training (such as an MSc in Health Sciences or social care research) related to applied health and care research. Demonstrable skills and experience in conducting research within social care and health contexts are essential.

What we offer in return:
  1. 26 days' holiday plus approximately 16 Bank Holidays/days the University is closed (including Christmas) – totaling 42 days annually.
  2. Generous pension scheme plus life assurance – with the University contributing 14.5% of salary.
  3. Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff memberships at The Edge, our state-of-the-art campus gym, featuring a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
  4. Personal Development: Access to courses through our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team, including self-development courses such as languages, Creative Writing, Wellbeing Therapies, and more.
