As part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic cancer biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 350 researchers and support staff with 20 research groups and associated core facilities in a state-of-the-art research facility.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to assist in the provision of the Flow and Mass Cytometry core service to the Institute. You will be expected to manage the day to day operation of the cell sorters (S8Discover, S6 Symphony at Containment Level 2) as well as routine maintenance. You will provide basic training for users of the analytical cytometers (Aurora, Fortessa, MacsQuant, A5 Symphony, Imagestream and Vi-Cells.) and assist in developing technologies of benefit to the Institute. You will also assist researchers with experiment design and analysis of data.

Applicants will ideally have a degree in biological sciences and experience of working in a molecular biology laboratory. You will be highly organised with a flexible and cooperative approach to working and be able to demonstrate broad practical molecular biology skills. Experience with flow cytometers and cell sorters is desirable but not necessary.

Experience and knowledge of operating and training others in the use of complex biomedical equipment, excellent communication skills, good learning potential and the ability to troubleshoot problems that arise with the flow sorters and analysers is essential. Team working is crucial as the post holder will work alongside other cytometrists.

Interviews will be held at the end of September/ early October 2026.
