The National Cardiovascular Research Network (NCRN) is a new Sustainable Centre funded by the recent investment of £48M into research by Health and Care Research Wales. The NCRN is unique in being the only Centre to receive additional funding through partnership with the British Heart Foundation and seeks to facilitate the development of cross-HEI/UHB inter-disciplinary work with translational relevance to clinical application. This pan-Wales Network embeds a collaborative alliance between researchers, clinicians, patients, public, Universities and Health Boards to enhance critical mass and excellence in cardiovascular research.

To be based within the Centre for Cardiovascular Research, Innovation and Development (CURIAD) at Cardiff Met, the NCRN is seeking an experienced and skilled Research and Innovation Bid Development Officer with a background in working in the scientific / clinical sector.

You Will

  • Work closely with the Network’s Leadership Team, Theme Principal Investigators and Strategy Leads, advising on funding trends, opportunities, and research priorities.
  • Through your leadership in bid development, research synthesis and activity-mapping, develop and operationalise a portfolio of externally funded projects that enhance the Network’s research capacity and capability.
  • Work with interdisciplinary research teams in identifying funding opportunities and support the preparation of grant applications to all relevant funders.
  • Liaise with funders and provide guidance to the Network’s stakeholders on how to appropriately frame and articulate key research questions to improve the competitiveness of applications for funding.
  • Provide training to individuals and groups, regarding funders, funding streams, and requirements to strengthen the quality and potential for success of securing awards.

What You’ll Bring

With substantial research development experience and a detailed professional knowledge of National and International Funding schemes, you will be able to lead and support the development of high-quality research and innovation bids under the guidance of the NCRN Leadership. Your excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with experience of working collaboratively across teams, will allow you develop strong relationships with Funders, health boards, local authorities and strategic alliances of the NCRN whilst providing advice and support in respect of National and Internal research and innovation funding initiatives to NCRN members.

Additionally, You Will

  • Be able to demonstrate strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work under time pressure, as often required during the development and submission of research funding bids.
