Job summary

Markel is seeking an Underwriter for its Renewal Connect team in Leeds. You’ll manage a high-volume renewals portfolio, delivering exceptional service to broker partners, and develop technical underwriting skills across a broad professional, management risk, charity segment.

You’ll work in a supportive team with development opportunities, hybrid working (Leeds office 3 days a week) and a strong track record of promoting talent within Markel.

Qualifications

• Commercial insurance underwriting experience
• Strong organisational and workload management skills
• Technical and analytical approach to underwriting
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
• Acturis experience
• Commercial renewals experience
• Experience within Professional, Management Risk or Charity insurance products
• CII qualifications or active CII studies

Responsibilities

• Underwriting commercial insurance risks within delegated authority
• Managing renewals and mid-term adjustments across a varied portfolio
• Working closely with brokers to retain and secure business
• Using underwriting judgement to assess risk and make effective decisions
• Developing strong relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders
• Working across multiple systems including Acturis and broker trading platforms
• Prioritising and managing workloads within a fast-paced renewals environment
• Supporting wider team initiatives and projects
