Job summary

Markel Corporation in Leeds is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to join the Renewal Connect team. You will manage a high-volume portfolio of commercial insurance renewals and support brokers while delivering exceptional underwriting service.

The role offers a clear path to Underwriter and Senior Underwriter positions, with funded CII qualifications, structured learning, and opportunities across Markel. Hybrid working (3 days in office, 2 days home) and a generous bonus are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial insurance underwriting or a closely related insurance environment.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite commercial renewal business within authority limits.
• Manage a portfolio of renewals and mid-term adjustments.
• Deliver an excellent service experience for brokers.
• Review risks and negotiate terms where appropriate.
• Retain existing business and identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities.
• Monitor broker activity and provide insights for performance improvements.
• Build strong relationships with brokers and internal partners.
• Prioritise and manage workflow to meet service standards.
• Collaborate with technical underwriting teams on projects.
