Job summary

Affirm is a remote-first company building backend systems at scale for a global user base. You will set technical strategy for your team over a year, collaborating with product, design and analytics to ensure sustainable, observable services.

You will work across AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes to deliver major features, own operational playbooks, and mentor teammates. This role requires 8+ years of backend experience and strong cross-team communication.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience delivering major features or deprecating functionality with a clear technical/execution plan.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across global teams.

Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for setting technical strategy for your team on a year-long timescale and align it with business-impacting projects.
• You will collaborate with product, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability and managed risks.
• You will advocate for technical solutions and operational processes to your team and beyond.
• You will own your team’s operations, monitoring, on-call readiness, playbooks, and incident response.
• You will set code and design standards, promoting quality and ownership across teams.
• You will mentor and develop talent within your team.
