Job summary

WCS is seeking a hands-on Software Architect to shape a mission-critical Warehouse Control System used in highly automated logistics environments. You will lead architecture across services, APIs, and data, collaborating with PLCs, robotics, WMS, and ERP integrations.

You will own non-functional requirements such as performance, security, and scalability, mentor engineers, and drive modernisation while balancing delivery priorities in a remote-first setup with occasional on-site phases.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Software Architect or lead engineer.
• Strong C# / .NET and modern app development practices.
• Design distributed systems, microservices, and high-performance apps.
• Background in system integration (APIs, messaging, event-driven).
• Experience with PLCs, robotics, or real-time control systems (desirable).
• CI/CD, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), and Linux environments.
• Performance tuning and scalability skills.
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve architecture across application, data, messaging, and deployment layers.
• Lead the design of complex features and subsystems with clear design artefacts/ADRs.
• Make key decisions on persistence, messaging, caching, and integration patterns.
• Ensure non-functional requirements like performance, scalability, availability, and security.
• Own integration patterns between WCS and external systems (PLCs, WMS, ERP, robotics).
• Design robust messaging and API interfaces; define error handling and recovery strategies.
• Serve as technical authority in client workshops, reviews, FAT/SAT, and go-live support.
• Mentor engineers and promote high-quality engineering practices.
