Job summary

Ably’s back office platform manages every customer account, encapsulating packages, entitlements and limits, while powering the tools used by Finance, Customer Success and Support. You will own this platform and decide how it should work, collaborating with the Head of Infrastructure and the Developer Experience team to deliver impactful tooling.

We operate in an AI-first engineering culture where AI is used for planning, prototyping and velocity gains, but engineers own the technical decisions

Qualifications

• Experience working with large, established codebases and the judgement to extend or replace systems.
• Ability to draw data ownership boundaries and shape architecture within inherited systems.
• Comfort pushing back on designs when process changes are needed rather than coding alone.

Responsibilities

• Run the back office platform, managing packages, entitlements, limits and billing.
• Solve problems, not tickets: own design and delivery from problem to solution.
• Make admin work intuitive: let staff see what a customer bought, how they’re billed, and what limits apply.
• Partner across Finance, Customer Success, Support and Engineering as the primary users.
• Champion AI-assisted development using LLMs and AI tools to accelerate work while ensuring quality.
• Make system explanations available: answer why limits exist and why invoices were produced.
• Set the testing bar and build harnesses to ensure production readiness.
