Job summary

BioSS in Aberdeen (with flexibility to work from Dundee or Edinburgh, or remotely from home) invites applications for a Statistician for Social and Socio-economic Sciences. Qualifications

• PhD in statistics or closely related quantitative discipline or MSc with commensurate post-qualification development and experience.
• Experience applying modern statistical methods to real-world social science problems.
• Ability to initiate, manage and maintain scientific collaborations and work independently.
• Broad familiarity with statistical methods used in social and socio-economic research.
• Enthusiasm for promoting statistical methods to aid research and for interacting with applied scientists.

Responsibilities

• Deliver collaborative research and statistical consultancy in social science and socio-economics.
• Develop and apply innovative statistical methods with potential relevance to RESAS-funded programmes.
• Support senior staff in seeking and winning external funding for research and consultancy.
• Contribute to development of a group of quantitative scientists within BioSS.
• Represent BioSS in meetings with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
• Engage with government agencies, NGOs, universities and industry.
• Contribute to BioSS training courses for scientists.
