Job summary

PLOS is a nonprofit organization advancing open science in research publishing. The Associate Editor oversees manuscript editorial processes for PLOS journals, using prior research experience, critical evaluation, and internal guidelines to make nuanced decisions.

You will collaborate with division colleagues to deliver developmental and promotional activities for PLOS journals. The role is fully remote/home based, with the UK as the candidate base, and a 2-year fixed-term contract.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree required; PhD/MD preferred.
• Experience in a research or publishing environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as escalation point for complex editorial queries.
• Support editorial boards and third-party teams to maintain rigor.
• Evaluate submissions based on reviewer comments.
• Contribute to editorial policy development and visibility of journals.
• Build relationships with the academic community and partners.
