Job summary

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
• Minimum 4 years postgraduate clinical experience.
• Experience in ADHD and/or ASD diagnostic assessment pathways for children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Carry out structured diagnostic assessments of children and young people, including focused interviews with young people and families.
• Integrate developmental histories, school reports, standardised tools, computerised test results and parent information into a biopsychosocial formulation.
• Establish diagnoses of ADHD and/or autism and relevant co-occurring conditions.
• Make defensible, evidence-based diagnostic decisions using DSM-5 and ICD-10/11, within defined pathways and governance.
• Deliver feedback on diagnosis or non-diagnosis, individual formulation, strengths and needs.
• Provide psychoeducation on ADHD and autism, including functional impact and support options.
• Recommend behavioural, environmental and educational support.
• Explain the medication pathway where appropriate, covering indications, risks, benefits and next steps.
• Write clear diagnostic reports covering outcomes, rationale and recommendations, and keep records to GMC and NHS governance standards.
• Work with Stage 1 assessment clinicians, multidisciplinary colleagues and administrative teams, including case discussion and peer review.
• Take part in audit, quality improvement and clinical governance, and maintain CPD, appraisal and revalidation.
• Contribute to service development activities where appropriate.
