Job summary

SILA Linguists is seeking freelance Pashto interpreters and translators for immigration, legal, healthcare, and social care work across the UK. Interpreters will handle southern and northern Pashto dialects and may work on-site or remotely, with flexible assignment options.

Applicants should have excellent Pashto and English, be willing to complete a UK DBS check, and possess reliable internet and a private workspace for remote assignments. Iranian Dari/Urdu language skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Excellent spoken and written Pashto and English.
• Willingness to complete a DBS check for healthcare, education or with vulnerable people.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site assignments.
• Reliable internet, headset and quiet workspace for remote work.
• Experience in immigration, legal, healthcare sectors is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for southern and northern Pashto speakers, including young people in care settings.
• Translate Afghan and Pakistani identity and civil documents, including the Tazkira.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and remain impartial on assignments.
• Build and maintain glossaries for the sectors you work in.
• Deliver written translations that are accurate, complete and on time.
• Produce transcripts and English translations of Pashto speech from recordings.
