Job summary

Simplyhealth is seeking a Software Developer to design, build, test, and maintain high-quality software products that support customers, colleagues and business goals. The role focuses on delivering solutions in a cross-functional delivery team, with opportunities to work across backend Go and frontend React/Next.js/TypeScript technologies.

The team values code quality, automated testing, security, performance, and collaboration, with flexible hybrid working from the UK head office in Hampshire.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining software in a professional engineering environment.
• Hands-on backend development with Go or a similar language.
• Frontend experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Experience building and consuming APIs and service-based architectures.
• Strong experience writing automated tests as part of day-to-day development.
• Good understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and maintainable code practices.
• Experience using Git and code review practices in a collaborative team.
• Understanding of secure development practices, performance considerations, and operational reliability.
• Experience in an Agile delivery team, contributing to planning, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical decisions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain software solutions meeting customer and business needs.
• Translate user stories into clear technical tasks and deliverables.
• Break down work, assess feasibility, and provide estimates.
• Produce well-structured, reliable, and secure code.
• Contribute to code reviews and pairing for quality feedback.
• Ensure code is well tested and follows engineering standards.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Communicate progress, risks, and decisions early and clearly.
• Take ownership from understanding to delivery and learn new technologies.
