Job summary

Durham University’s Nomis team seeks a Data Operation Specialist to support the delivery and development of the Nomis service. You will work with complex statistical data in a live production environment, processing datasets, updating databases, and performing quality checks and testing.

The role supports flexible, remote and on-site work within the Geography department, with a fixed-term contract for nineteen months ending 31 March 2028. A competitive benefits package accompanies the role.

Qualifications

• Educated to a good numerate degree level (or equivalent experience).
• Professional practitioner with knowledge and expertise in data operations, structured data processing and data-driven services.
• Experience of delivering and developing ETL projects to manipulate large, complex numerical datasets.
• Experience of providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of Nomis data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) pipelines, including modifying data processing routines.
• Liaise with internal teams, ONS data suppliers, and Nomis customers to ensure the integrity and delivery of services.
• Plan, manage and deliver assigned projects and activities using appropriate techniques and testing procedures.
• Provide regular status reports on projects and ongoing work to colleagues and data providers.
