Job summary

Ripjar is hiring a Data Engineer to join a distributed data engineering team responsible for the Data Collection Hub. You will build ingestion services, process large data pipelines, and ensure reliability across systems in a remote-first environment.

The role requires 2+ years building production software, proficiency in Python or Node.js, and strong fundamentals in data structures and Linux. This position supports remote work with occasional office presence possible in Cheltenham.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building and operating production software systems.
• Fluency in at least one programming language (Python/Node.js a plus).
• Experience debugging moderately complex systems and improving reliability/performance.
• Strong fundamentals: data structures, testing, version control, Linux basics.

Responsibilities

• Engineer distributed ingestion services that reliably pull data from diverse sources.
• Build high-throughput processing components with focus on performance and scalability.
• Design and evolve data contracts (schemas, validation rules, versioning).
• Own production quality: tests, observability (metrics/logs/tracing).
• Improve platform reliability by hardening pipelines and guardrails.
• Contribute to CI/CD and developer experience: faster builds and safer releases.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and incident retrospectives.
