Job summary

Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated clinical coder to join our progressive team in Bath. The role offers a pathway to NCCQ qualification and potential progression to Band 5 upon successful completion and demonstrated competencies.

You will code inpatient/day cases using ICD-10 and OPCS-4, ensuring timely submission of data and adherence to national standards. The Trust supports flexible working: on site, remote, or hybrid arrangements may be available.

Qualifications

• NHS Accredited Clinical Coder qualification (Band 5 role)
• Educated to 5 GCSE's at grade C or above
• A level Biology or equivalent work experience
• Willing to attend all necessary training sessions and clinical coding workshops
• Good understanding of the rules of clinical coding

Responsibilities

• Abstract and code all inpatient/day case episodes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4
• Ensure clinical data is entered onto the Trust’s information system within the agreed timeframe
• Adhere to national procedures/guidelines for clinical coding
• Follow local procedures for clinical coding relating to specialties/consultants
• Meet local/national deadlines under pressure
• Liaise with medical staff on queries relating to clinical information and case notes
• Attend required training for ICD10/OPCS4 coding standards
• Raise coding issues for resolution with Team Manager or Professional Lead
• Identify and address data quality concerns in hospital records
• Attend Trust meetings as required
• Work with clinicians/managers to resolve coding process issues
• Mentor junior coders
• Perform other relevant duties
