Job summary

Canal & River Trust is seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to join the Asset Management team. The role focuses on inspecting, maintaining and renewing engineering infrastructure across the West Midlands, with significant on-site activity and travel across the regional network.

We offer development through ICE training and opportunities to collaborate with other engineering departments, while providing a clear path to accreditation and chartership.

Qualifications

• Education qualification in a relevant technical discipline (HNC/HND and/or Degree in Civil Engineering).
• Experience in civil engineering inspection and maintenance; beneficial for assessing infrastructure risk.
• Knowledge of historic infrastructure.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel; tablet-based inspection apps are beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Undertake asset inspections including service, safety and principal inspections.
• Collect data to inform asset degradation models.
• Identify defects and prioritise repairs.
• Investigate and monitor assets and related defects.
• Support internal teams and stakeholders.
• Engage with customers and external stakeholders to promote the Trust’s work.
