Job summary

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Accredited Clinical Coder to transform complex patient information into accurate, nationally recognised data that supports patient care, NHS funding, service planning and performance reporting.

In this role you will interpret detailed clinical records, applying ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications to assign diagnostic and procedure codes in line with national standards, working with clinicians to ensure high data quality across the Trust.

Qualifications

• NCCQ Accreditation (ACC)
• Clinical Coding Standards Refresher within last 3 years
• Degree or equivalent training and experience
• Anatomy & Physiology qualification
• NHS Digital approved clinical coding workshops or specialty courses

Responsibilities

• Extract, analyse and translate clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes.
• Input data onto the Trust’s encoder within agreed deadlines.
• Code inpatient spells accurately and comprehensively.
• Access radiology and pathology results to update coded information.
• Explain coding decisions and provide guidance to staff.
• Collaborate with clinicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
• Share knowledge and provide guidance within the Coding team.
• Plan and manage a personal workload to meet objectives and deadlines.
• Support monthly coding targets and team workload during peak periods.
• Use clinical systems to gather and validate information for coding.
