Job summary

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking an ACC-qualified Clinical Coder (Band 5) to abstract from patient notes and assign ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes in line with national standards, supporting accurate data for Payment by Results.

The role requires taking lead responsibility for coding complex activity, maintaining high data quality, and supporting training and mentorship within the Clinical Coding team across wards and specialties.

Qualifications

• ACC-qualified Clinical Coder with Band 5 status and NHS-relevant accreditation.
• Ability to code complex activity in line with national standards.
• Experience using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 coding frameworks.
• Lead and support training for the Clinical Coding team.

Responsibilities

• Take lead responsibility for coding of complex activity including deceased patients to the highest standard.
• Maintain coding accuracy when audited in line with national requirements.
• Assist management in validation of coded data and monitor data quality.
• Organise cover for absent team members and support cross-ward coding across specialties.
• Participate in development and management of coding services to improve accuracy.
• Support the team with coding queries and ensure timely, high-quality data for income monitoring.
• Provide coaching to Clinical Coding trainees to aid development.
