Portfield is a Special Educational Needs school supporting children with autism and other learning complexities. Our school is oversubscribed each year, currently supporting 85 Teaching Assistants and 110 students across our School and 6th Form. We are proud to be rated Good by Ofsted, aspiring to become Outstanding.
We are expanding our offerings at Portfield School due to new students and additional classrooms, creating a need for more Teaching Assistants.
The role
We are seeking Relief Teaching Assistants. Shifts are typically from 09:30 am to 3 pm, with flexibility considered. The school will email available shifts; support is needed for cover during training, trips, sickness, etc.
You will support students in primary (ages 4-10) and secondary (ages 11-16) phases, working with classes of up to 9 students to support their learning and development. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson preparation, helping students understand activities, and recording progress.
This role can be physically demanding and challenging. Communication, enthusiasm, and resilience are essential. It offers rewarding experiences and ongoing support from our leadership team.
You may work in facilities like therapy pools and sensory rooms. Swimming is not essential, but comfort in shallow water is required.

Background
Our 12-week onboarding includes training and development. Opportunities include learning sign language, becoming a training tutor, or completing NVQ qualifications. Prior experience is not required.
