Job summary

Tarmac Trading Limited is seeking a Reliability Technician to join our Dunbar Cement Plant engineering team. You will focus on improving equipment reliability, performing vibration analysis, and supporting maintenance planning to reduce downtime.

Ideal candidates hold a mechanical qualification and have experience in a continuous process environment. You will collaborate with production and maintenance teams while adhering to safety procedures and using CMMS tools.

Qualifications

  • A mechanical qualification, such as a Modern Apprenticeship, HNC or an equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Maintenance or inspection experience within a cement, quarrying, heavy manufacturing or similar continuous process environment.
  • Experience of assessing risks and producing risk assessments and method statements for maintenance activities.
  • Training or experience in the use of handheld vibration monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of condition-based monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • A strong understanding of equipment safety isolation and safe systems of work.
  • Good IT skills with experience of Microsoft Office and ideally SAP or another CMMS system.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritise health, safety and environmental standards at all times and work in accordance with site safety procedures and isolation requirements.
  • Carry out vibration analysis on running plant, analyse data, record findings and report recommendations.
  • Undertake stopped inspections of machinery, take measurements and conduct visual inspections to identify developing equipment issues.
  • Collect and manage oil samples from major plant equipment and use analysis data to support maintenance planning and reliability improvements.
  • Complete planned plant inspection routes and first and second‑level inspections on critical equipment.
  • Carry out lubrication activities on both running and stopped plant equipment.
  • Use inspection findings to raise, prioritise and support work orders that help prevent unplanned downtime and equipment failures.
  • Work closely with production, maintenance and process specialists to align maintenance priorities with plant risks and operational requirements.

Job description

We are currently looking for a Reliability Technician to join our Engineering team at our Dunbar Cement Plant, located close to Edinburgh and easily accessible from Edinburgh, Berwick‑upon‑Tweed, North Berwick, Haddington and the surrounding areas. As a key member of the maintenance team, you will play a vital role in improving equipment reliability and reducing plant failures within a large‑scale continuous process manufacturing environment.
