Job summary

Cancer Research UK is seeking a Relationship Manager for Legacy Fundraising covering Scotland and Northern Ireland. This home-based role requires travel and a valid car, with a 35-hour week and a permanent contract.

  • Proven experience in relationship management, fundraising, community engagement or similar.

  • Emotional intelligence and resilience handling sensitive conversations around topics such as bereavement and legacy giving.

  • Build and nurture relationships with supporters and groups to maximise long-term engagement.
  • Manage a portfolio of supporters with personalised stewardship and tailored communications.
  • Represent CRUK Legacy team across Scotland and Northern Ireland with travel as required.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop campaigns and supporter journeys.
  • Monitor performance against targets and contribute to legacy pipeline growth.

Relationship Manager - Legacy Fundraising Scotland

£33,000-£37,000 plus benefits

Reports to: Team Manager

Directorate: Marketing, Fundraising & Engagement

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

Location: Home-based (role covers Scotland and Northern Ireland; candidates must live in Scotland). You will need access to a car as extensive travel is required for this role. What will I be doing?
  • Build and nurture meaningful relationships with supporters, prospects, organisations and community groups, inspiring long-term engagement with Cancer Research UK and Legacy giving.
  • Manage a portfolio of supporters, providing personalised stewardship, tailored communications and exceptional supporter experiences that maximise lifetime value.
  • Act as the face of CRUK's Legacy team across Scotland and Northern Ireland, attending supporter meetings, events and engagement activities throughout the region.
  • Deliver sensitive conversations around Wills, legacy planning and end-of-life giving with empathy, professionalism and confidence.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Supporter Relationships and the wider organisation to develop innovative campaigns, events and supporter journeys.
  • Monitor performance against targets, maintain accurate supporter records and contribute to the growth of CRUK's Legacy pipeline and income.
What are we looking for?
  • Proven experience in relationship management, fundraising, community engagement, supporter development or a similar customer-facing environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and inspire a wide range of audiences through face-to-face, telephone and written interactions.
  • Emotional intelligence and resilience, with confidence handling sensitive and personal conversations around topics such as family, bereavement, Wills and future giving.
  • Strong organisational skills and self-motivation, able to manage a busy workload, work independently and identify new opportunities across a large geographical area.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake extensive regional travel, including occasional evening and weekend events where required.
  • A passion for Cancer Research UK's mission and the ability to communicate our impact in a compelling and inspiring way.

Eligibility criteria

Internal candidates should ideally have completed their 6-month ‘getting started’ period before applying for other roles. You should also advise your current line manager at the point you make an internal application, or at the latest, at the point of being invited for an interview.

All internal candidates applying for a secondment, must have:

  • completed their getting started period
  • discussed their intention to apply and gained approval to apply with their line manager
  • been in their substantive (home) role for at least 6 months (this is only applicable if you have previously been on secondment)
