We are seeking a talented individual to join our Marine Energy and Engineering Analytics team at Guy Carpenter. This role will be based in London. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The Marine Energy and Engineering Analytics team currently consists of nine Actuaries and four Cat Modellers in London, with a three further Cat Modellers in Mumbai. We are a truly global team working on large multinational clients, so we regularly work with our broking and analytical colleagues in both the US and Asia. There is a wide scope to add real value to our clients and plenty of opportunity for creativity. Our team is collaborative and innovative and has naturally grown over the years with colleagues joining from other teams within the company and with excellent staff retention.

This a unique, hybrid role which will involve approximately 60% Cat modelling and 40% actuarial work, with a data analysis focus.

What can you expect?

  • The team has a significant client and market facing presence and team members will need to be able to support this by presenting and pitching to prospect clients. Whilst based in London, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to become a key part in a team with a global reach and remit.
  • This is a real opportunity in the development and innovation of tools as the company continues to invest. You will also be given the chance to work on new lines of business and you will be able to contribute to building tools from scratch whilst being supported by the wider team and senior management.

We will rely on you to:

  • Contribute on model development, quality control, and project delivery.
  • Create innovative tools to process, visualise, and analyse data
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to confidently engage with brokers and deliver presentations to clients.
  • Manage complex client case work including the analysis of risk, structuring, pricing and optimisation of technically complex reinsurance programmes.
  • Be confident juggling multiple priorities for a range of different stakeholders, often under challenging deadlines and circumstances.
  • Be considered and assured in communicating technical concepts to internal and external audiences with varying levels of understanding of the risk.
  • Drive independent research into areas of interest to Marine, Energy, Terror and Engineering, including developing and maintaining technical, market, and regulatory knowledge.

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Economics, Math, Statistics, or related field
  • Be self-driven with the curiosity to question and learn
  • Data management experience with the ability to cleanse and manipulate large data sets to provide insights (experience with SQL preferred)
  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and precision in data handling and documentation. Attention to detail is critical
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders
  • Excellent project management skills with a proven track record of delivering to deadlines
  • Proficient in MS Office; with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint in particular

What makes you stand out:

  • An understanding of, or experience in, the reinsurance/insurance industry
  • Coding experience in programming languages (i.e. Alteryx, R, Python, VBA, SQL)
  • Depth of expertise in a particular line or segment within the insurance industry
  • Visualization skills – Power BI or similar.
  • Knowledge or experience in reinsurance pricing

Why join our team:

  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
