Job summary

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Rehabilitation Officer for Visually Impaired (ROVI) post within the Independent Living Service.

The Independent Living Service (ILS) has 31 staff members, comprising Occupational Therapists, Disability Officers, and Community Assessment Officers, and includes the Sensory Team and Telecare Team.

The aim of this post holder is to assess and support people with visual impairments within the community. The role contributes to meeting the needs of people with disabilities across the district by promoting independence and enhancing quality of life. This is achieved through the provision of specialist advice, rehabilitation techniques, equipment, adaptations, and ongoing support, enabling individuals to maximise their functional abilities and participate fully in daily activities.

This post offers an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of innovative ways of working across health and social care to improve the experience of people and carers and to promote well-being and independence.

The ability to develop, maintain, and improve relationships with people and carers is essential in this role, as are the attributes required to participate in interdisciplinary team working.

The post is subject to enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service and a Qualification in Rehabilitation work with Visually Impaired people Honours Degree or Dip H. E. Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation studies (visual impairment) or equivalent.

About You

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a passion for working with adults, understanding their needs, aspirations and supporting them to enhance their quality of life and promote independence.

As a ROVI within ILS, you will provide specialist input and an effective rehabilitation service to individuals with a visual or dual sensory impairment, including specialist assessment of need and provision of equipment, adaptations, support and rehabilitation training.
