Job description

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we’re trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, team‑orientated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Orwell Vets on a full‑time basis. Our purpose‑built hospital is in a popular, central location close to the coast, offering modern facilities while maintaining the welcoming feel of a local practice. We have a stable, close‑knit team and are well‑equipped with dental radiography, digital X‑ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, a dedicated dental suite, recovery area, isolation facilities, and separate dog and cat wards, allowing us to deliver a high standard of care across a wide range of cases.

You'll be joining a supportive team of 5 vets, 2 Senior Nurses, 5 RVNs, 1 Veterinary Care Assistant, and 1 Kennel Assistant who are passionate about delivering excellent patient care. We have a strong focus on clinical standards, Infection Prevention and Control, and responsible antimicrobial stewardship, while actively encouraging CPD and career progression so every team member can develop and thrive.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first‑opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.

Working Pattern
  • 40 hours per week
  • Ideally 4x10‑hour shifts between 7:45 am – 8 pm
  • 1:6 Saturday mornings between 8 am – 12 pm
General Responsibilities

The role is based on a permanent rota comprising six scheduled shifts each week, providing a consistent yet varied working pattern. Shifts include ward duties, clinic consultations, two operating days, a fixed late shift (10 am – 8 pm on the same day each week), and recovery responsibilities. Recovery shifts are typically covered by a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA); however, occasional cover by nurses may be required to support the team.

You Might Be a Great Fit If…
  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
  • Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
  • A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
  • A valid UK driver's licence to travel between sites and transport patients when needed
How We’ll Support You
  • A varied and rewarding nursing role within a supportive primary care environment
  • Graduate: Join a dedicated Nurse Graduate Programme designed to build your clinical confidence and support your first steps in practice
  • Experienced: Develop your specific nursing passions through out subject‑specific learning pathways in our dedicated Nurse Academy
  • Clear career development with progression opportunities into Senior Nurse, Referral, leadership roles, clinical supervisor routes, mentoring and certificate pathways
  • Ongoing learning and development supported by experienced colleagues and practice teams
  • A collaborative, values‑led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement
