Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join the inpatient Nursing Team at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The role covers care for patients receiving Radiotherapy, systemic anti-cancer therapies, and various stages of the cancer journey. An NMC registration is essential to apply.

The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Registered Nurse to join our inpatient Nursing Team.

The role of the oncology nurse is highly specialised within the cancer centre providing a comprehensive and holistic approach to patient care. As an essential part of our team, you’ll deliver high quality, clinically effective patient care at all times. We can offer you a varied caseload including caring for patients receiving Radiotherapy, administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies and the care of patients at varying stages in their cancer journey that will help you develop your capabilities and experience.

Experience in an oncology healthcare setting desirable but not essential, however candidates must hold an NMC registration to apply. Good interpersonal, writing and numeracy skills essential.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Location based in Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full-time position (36 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for this post are 12 hour rotational shift
Key responsibilities:
  • To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
  • Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement Standards.
  • Complete clinical appraisal of pre registration nurses.
  • Participate in performance appraisal in line with policy.
  • Demonstrate own professional development.
  • Support the implementation of research and clinical audit where appropriate
  • Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
  • Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • First/Second Level Registered Nurse with a minimum of 1 year post registration experience
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
