As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient-centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical framework established by relevant nursing standards and laws, including the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, ANA Scope and Standards, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The role of the RN includes leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes.
YNHHS nurses operate within a framework that emphasizes autonomy and accountability. We value Nursing Professional Governance and support practice through evidence and data, always centering on the patient and family. The RN provides care that:
Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required or obtained within one month of hire.
Experience: All RNs are encouraged to participate in the SPIRE clinical advancement program. A minimum of 9 months of acute care experience is required (excluding orientation).
Licensure: Licensed and registered in Connecticut. Specialty certifications are highly encouraged.
Skills: Foundational RN skills; ongoing professional development encouraged through SPIRE.
Prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing, touch. Exposure to infectious diseases, physical, mental, and emotional stress, end-of-life situations. Must assist with patient handling, including lifting up to 300 pounds.
Critical care or pediatrics experience preferred. 9 months acute care experience required. BLS certification required; PALS and ACLS preferred.
