Overview

Registered Nurse — Permanent position, 37.5 hours per week. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on the regional Head and Neck Unit in Liverpool. The ward is a surgical area dealing with many different types of Head and Neck patients. Patients undergo different surgery including major oncology, restorative, dental and minor procedures. These patients and their families require a great deal of physical, psychological and emotional support as well as managing complex nursing needs. The unit also treats trauma and non-oncology patients with a very varied set of problems and needs. We are looking to recruit a dynamic nurse to join our team, who wishes to develop new skills or build on existing ones. The unit will provide you with challenging nursing demands to help see patients through from admission to discharge. Support will be provided from all the multidisciplinary team to utilise the skills you can offer us. Education and training will be provided. This is a challenging but extremely rewarding nursing role. You must be a registered Nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
  • Determine nursing priorities and plans patient care. Inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
  • Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines.
  • Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  • Provide information and support to patients/carers, and ensure all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  • Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
  • Undertake expanded practice, under supervision, in order to optimise patient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
  • Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivering of care.
  • Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.
