Job Description:

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients.

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision. The post holder may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise registered and/or unregistered staff, as well as student nurses.

Duties may vary with the type of ward / department and the degree of patient dependency

Additional required after 2 years Post registration

The post holder will direct, coordinate and supervise, where appropriate, the work of other staff within the ward or department to promote best practice in relation to patient care

In the absence of the senior charge nurse/team leader, or deputy, the post holder will provide cover to ensure effective operation of the ward /department

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • To have or aiming towards degree level
  • Relevant post registration experience preferably within a surgical setting
  • To maintain a high standard of post registration studies, appropriate to UKCC PREP Guidelines
  • Good Organisational skills

Contract type

  • Fixed Term or Secondment until March 2027
  • Full time
  • 37 hours
  • Please note this is a fixed term post until March 2027. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in General Surgery Receiving Wad within University Hospital Monklands.

The working pattern for this role is Rotational.
