The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Also, directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. An RN II must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include: assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, communicating with the Director/Designee and co-workers, attending Valley Health paid education/seminars/conferences, and reading relevant nursing articles. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN II routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational bulletin boards or posters for staff and patients.
Associates Degree in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN, or ADN) required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Advancement to this level requires a minimum of 1872 full-time or part-time hours (936 if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation.
RN License required. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required. Relevant Specialty Certification preferred. New hires must have AHA certification prior to orientation completion.
Meets all RN I requirements. Competent to provide care across human growth and development stages. Capable of providing care using the nursing process. Must have reliable phone communication with the hospital.
