Job Purpose
To provide safe, effective and person-centred nursing care to residents whilst leading the team on duty. As a Registered Nurse, you will coordinate and supervise care delivery within your designated unit. In addition, you will support colleagues, manage incidents and emergencies, and help ensure the safe and effective operation of the service. You will also promote resident wellbeing, dignity, choice and independence while ensuring care is delivered in accordance with professional standards, regulatory requirements and Horsfall House values. Furthermore, you will contribute to a positive culture of teamwork, learning and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for residents.
- Maintain accurate and up to date care plans, risk assessments and clinical records.
- Monitor residents’ physical, emotional, psychological and social wellbeing and respond appropriately to changing needs.
- Administer, record, store and dispose of medication in accordance with legislation, NMC requirements and Horsfall House policies.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, community teams, hospitals, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
- Recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration, safeguarding concerns and emergency situations.
- Support residents requiring dementia, palliative, end of life, respite or complex nursing care.
- Ensure effective communication and handover between shifts and departments.
Leadership and Supervision
- Lead the care team on shift, ensuring care is delivered safely, effectively and compassionately.
- Provide guidance, support and clinical supervision to colleagues.
- Delegate work appropriately based on skills, competence and resident needs.
- Support the induction, development and ongoing competency of staff.
- Contribute to staff supervision, appraisal and performance discussions as requested.
- Promote a positive culture of teamwork, learning and accountability.
Quality, Safety and Governance
- Deliver care in accordance with the NMC Code, CQC regulations and Horsfall House policies.
- Maintain high standards of record keeping and confidentiality.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives and service development activities.
- Identify and report on incidents in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Promote a culture of openness, learning and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to safeguarding adults at risk and ensure concerns are acted upon promptly.

Person Specification
Essential
- Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with current NMC registration.
- Commitment to person-centred care and safeguarding.
- Good clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to lead and coordinate a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competent in medication management and clinical record keeping.
- Availability to work alternate weekends.
Desirable
- Experience working in a nursing, residential, community or hospital setting.
- Experience working with older people and those living with dementia.
- Experience of palliative and end of life care.
- Experience of supervising staff.
- Understanding of CQC regulatory requirements.
- Experience of acting as nurse in charge or shift leader.

The postholder may be the most senior clinical member of staff on duty and is accountable for:
