Job summary

Portman Recruitment is seeking an experienced Registered Manager to take overall responsibility for a children’s residential home in Hartlepool. Lead staff, ensure safeguarding, develop care planning and service delivery to a high standard.

You will work with social workers, families and professionals to promote positive outcomes for children, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and Ofsted requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in residential childcare with children.
  • At least 2 years' experience working at a senior level within a residential childcare setting.
  • Social Work qualification and management qualification/NVQ Level 5, or working towards Level 5.

Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the children's home.
  • Lead recruitment, selection and induction of staff in line with safer recruitment procedures.
  • Manage budgets and ensure financial procedures are followed.
  • Provide effective staff supervision, appraisal, training and development.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and ensure care plans are implemented.

Job description

Location: Hartlepool
Salary: Up to £53,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Primarily Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm, with some evening, weekend and sleep-in duties as required

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and committed Registered Manager to take overall responsibility for the successful management and development of a children's residential home in Hartlepool.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced children's residential professional who is passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a positive, supportive environment where young people can thrive.

You will provide strong leadership to the staff team, ensure the home operates in line with relevant legislation and regulations, and maintain high standards of safeguarding, care planning and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of the children's home.
  • Ensure the home operates in accordance with its Statement of Purpose, policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and ensure children's health, wellbeing, development and individual needs are fully supported.
  • Ensure care plans and associated documentation are developed, implemented, monitored and regularly reviewed.
  • Work closely with social workers, families and other professionals to promote positive outcomes for children.
  • Ensure children are consulted about their care and that their views, wishes and feelings are listened to and acted upon.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitoring reports, handovers and online recording systems.
  • Ensure all required Ofsted notifications are completed accurately and within the required timescales.
  • Lead recruitment, selection and induction of staff in line with safer recruitment procedures.
  • Provide effective staff supervision, appraisal, training and development.
  • Manage staffing levels, rotas and shifts to ensure the home is appropriately staffed and children receive consistent support.
  • Lead and support staff meetings, ensuring actions are recorded and followed through.
  • Manage budgets and ensure financial procedures are followed effectively.
  • Support the investigation and management of disciplinary and grievance matters where required.
  • Promote effective behavioural management approaches and ensure interventions are implemented consistently.
  • Maintain the physical environment of the home to a high standard.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, systems and service delivery.
  • Ensure the service remains compliant with relevant children's homes regulations and quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider organisation and external professionals to achieve positive outcomes.

The successful candidate will be a confident and values-led manager with a strong background in children's residential care. You will have the leadership skills required to motivate a team, maintain high standards and ensure children receive outstanding care and support.

Essential Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in residential childcare with children.
  • At least 2 years' experience working at a senior level within a residential childcare setting.
  • Social Work qualification and management qualification/NVQ Level 5, or currently working towards Level 5 with a commitment to completing within an agreed timeframe.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant children's social care legislation and guidance.
  • Knowledge of the Quality Standards and Regulations for Children's Homes.
  • Understanding of child development and the needs of children in care.
  • Knowledge of management, supervision and appraisal processes.
  • Understanding of the Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF).
  • Confidence using online systems for recording and maintaining information.
