Job summary

Universal Care Group is seeking an Ofsted Registered Childrens Manager for our new residential home in the heart of Walsall to oversee the care and development of children.

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team, ensure safeguarding and regulatory compliance, and drive learning and wellbeing through high-quality programmes and partnerships with parents and external agencies.

Qualifications

• Experience managing childcare teams in a residential setting.
• Ofsted qualification requirements as listed (Level 3/4 and Level 5 leadership).
• Minimum 2 years in a residential care setting.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the childrens care facility and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead quality assurance, Regulation 45/44 audits, improvement plans, and post-audit responses.
• Develop engaging programmes supporting physical, emotional, and educational development.
• Manage staff induction, supervision, appraisal, and development with Safer Recruitment practices.
• Maintain effective communication with parents, caregivers, and external agencies.
• Regularly assess childrens progress and adapt programmes to individual needs.
• Ensure safeguarding policies are followed and create a safe environment.
• Handle administrative tasks and record keeping for the facility.
• Represent the home in meetings with local authorities and safeguarding partners.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ofsted Registered Children's Manager for our brand new beautifully furbished Children's Residential home to oversee the care and development of children within our facility based within the heart of Walsall.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care, safeguarding, and education for children, while also managing a team of staff members. This role requires a strong commitment to child welfare and the ability to foster a nurturing environment that promotes learning and growth.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operations of the children's care facility, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
• Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement processes, including Regulation 45 reports, audits, improvement plans, and responses to Regulation 44 audits and local authority assurance visits. Monitor incidents, complaints, performance indicators, and outcomes for children.
• Develop and implement engaging programmes that support children's physical, emotional, and educational development.
• Manage staff induction, supervision, appraisal, performance, and development in line with safer recruitment practices and company policy. Ensure staffing levels, training, and research-based practice support high-quality care delivery.
• Maintain effective communication with parents, caregivers, and external agencies to ensure collaborative approaches to child welfare.
• Conduct regular assessments of children's progress and well-being, adapting programmes as necessary to meet individual needs.
• Ensure that safeguarding policies are adhered to at all times, creating a safe environment for all children.
• Manage administrative tasks related to the operation of the facility, including record keeping and reporting.
• Represent the home professionally in meetings and multi-agency settings, building strong relationships with local authorities, commissioners, and safeguarding partners while upholding organisational values, policies, and professional standards.

Essential Requirements

• A recognised Ofsted qualification (e.g., Level 3 Diploma in Childcare or NVQ Level 4 Children and Young People ) and Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and management for residential childcare.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a managerial role within a childcare setting is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 2 years experience within a Residential setting.
• Strong knowledge of child development theories and best practices in early years education.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and staff.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development and training in childcare practices.
• An understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures is essential.
