Job summary

Action for Children is recruiting a Registered Manager to lead Starbright House, a new trauma-informed children’s home in Hackney. You will develop the team, drive OFSTED readiness, and ensure a safe, nurturing environment for children and young people with complex needs.

You will collaborate with London Borough of Hackney and partners to deliver stable, supportive homes, focusing on safeguarding, psychological safety, and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of leadership in residential settings.
  • Ability to work with safeguarding and Ofsted requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and lead the team for Starbright House.
  • Oversee development and launch of the new home, ensuring OFSTED registration.
  • Liaise with Hackney Council, stakeholders and community partners.
  • Deliver high-quality care aligned with national standards and trauma-informed practices.

Job description

Salary: £55,000.00 per annum (we are willing to exceed this salary for an exceptional candidate) plus £700.00 on call allowance – 1 in 4 weeks.
Location: London Borough of Hackney
Contract/Hours: Full time – 37 hours a week 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with on call responsibilities and expectations to support the needs of the home.

A bit about the role

We are recruiting a Registered Manager to lead the development and operation of Starbright House, one of our brand new children's homes in the London Borough of Hackney. Starbright House will provide a loving, nurturing and trauma-informed home for children and young people with complex emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.

Action for Children are working in close partnership with London Borough of Hackney to develop and run a new trauma-informed therapeutic children's home within the borough.

This exciting new development will offer stable, safe and loving homes which enable children and young people to stay in Hackney, helping them to growing up supported and happy, with the chance to maintain and build on the relationships that matter to them the most.

Together, we will ensure that children receive the highest standards of support, tailored to their unique needs, in a welcoming, safe, high-quality home.

What you do could make a difference

This is much more than a Registered Manager role – you will lead on the development process and launch of our children's new home. We want you to build the team and put everything in place to lay a sound foundation and secure OFSTED registration.

Through innovative care and support, we will provide a safe, nurturing environment for trauma informed children, in the London Borough of Hackney.

  • Liaising with stakeholders, the community, and other agencies.
Let's talk about you.
  • We're looking for someone who will support Hackney's Children and Families Service and Action for Children's commitment to eradicating systemic racism, discrimination, injustice, making anti-racism a foundation of their practice.
  • You will bring management experience in trauma informed children's residential care, alongside a Level 5 qualification (e.g. Diploma in Leadership and management of Residential Childcare) – or evidence you are ready to work towards this.
  • Experience of working with children at risk of criminal exploitation and sexual abuse.
  • You will understand the cultural, societal, and ideological forces that shape a child’s development.
  • Your track record will be demonstrated by Good or Outstanding OFSTED ratings for homes in which you've held leadership roles.
