Job description

Job Title: Dental Nurse

An opportunity to join an established team as a qualified Dental Nurse, providing support to and working alongside qualified dental staff and undergraduates within the Community Dental Service.

Mainly based in the Community across 4 sites: Arthurs Hill, Kenton, Molineux (Byker), & Walker.

The role may also require you to work anywhere within the Dental Directorate, including Dental Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary, & Freeman Hospital.

Responsibilities:
  • Providing support to patients with additional needs, such as medically compromised, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities.
  • Acting as a member of the dental team in community dentistry, assisting dentists, higher specialist trainees, GPs, hygienists, therapists, postgraduate students, and dental students.
  • Demonstrating activities and providing supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and less experienced staff.
  • Working as necessary within any area of the hospital and dental units within the Trust, despite being based in a specific department.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Providing chair-side assistance, including for treatments under General Anaesthetic.
  • Preparing instruments, equipment, and materials for treatment.
  • Providing care and support for patients during treatments.
  • Giving pre and post-operative instructions and advice, maintaining high patient care standards.
  • Upholding patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Handling administrative tasks, liaising with patients and external agencies.
  • Providing clinical supervision and training to students and less experienced staff daily.
  • Maintaining infection control, cleanliness, stock levels, and equipment.

Please note, candidates requiring a DBS must pay for their certificate via salary deduction from the first month’s pay.
