Job description

Job Title: Senior Nurse Specialist

You will work as a Senior Nurse Specialist, leading the day-to-day delivery of clinical care and supporting the Nurse Consultant within the service to plan and deliver care within the National aHUS Service, a single-centre highly specialised service commissioned by NHS England.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage both paediatric and adult patients with complement-mediated renal diseases.
  2. Demonstrate sound judgement, clinical acumen, and decision-making in managing patients on treatment for atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS) and C3 glomerulopathy, including patients withdrawing from therapies requiring active monitoring for relapse.
  3. Coordinate re-initiation of treatment across England and Scotland to ensure timely care.
  4. Engage in multi-agency working across professional boundaries and NHS organisations to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective care for patients across England and Scotland.
  5. Collaborate with stakeholders including patients, families, NHS England, consultants, pharmaceutical companies, laboratory sciences, research departments, and multidisciplinary teams.
  6. Deliver clinical care and provide leadership, evidenced through tangible outputs such as participation in clinical audits and service improvements.
  7. Participate in education and training programs for nurses and allied health professionals.
  8. Ensure evidence-based practice and engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.

  • Other associated sites including Newcastle Dental Hospital, Newcastle Fertility Centre, Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria, Northern Genetics Service, Cramlington Manor Walks, offices at Regent Point, Gosforth, and community sites.
