Ips Group is seeking a Regional Underwriting Manager- Technical Lead to operate from Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, or Glasgow. You’ll be the top technical authority outside the central function, guiding regional teams in major client engagements and complex risks.

The role blends technical underwriting excellence with strategic commercial judgment, driving growth while maintaining disciplined risk. A senior leader will steer governance, coaching and market-facing activity across the region.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial underwriting experience within UK insurance.
• Strong Property and Casualty underwriting expertise across large/complex risks.
• Exposure to handling/influencing high-value risks (hundreds of millions).
• Experience supporting programme placements and complex casualty structures.
• Proven ability to make sound technical decisions in high-value situations.

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior regional authority for complex underwriting referrals and technical decision-making.
• Support Branch Underwriting Managers in structuring solutions for challenging/high-value risks.
• Drive underwriting standards, governance and technical excellence across the region.
• Lead development, coaching and technical capability of underwriting teams.
• Influence regional underwriting strategy and ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Support major tenders, strategic deals and complex client opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients and market stakeholders.
• Analyse performance data and identify opportunities to improve underwriting effectiveness.
