Job summary

Building Careers UK Ltd is seeking a Buyer to join our Supply Chain team in the North West region, covering Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington. The role involves supporting procurement activities across diverse spend categories, driving value for money and delivering commercial improvements aligned with organisational goals.

You will travel between locations and supplier sites, working with internal stakeholders to develop specifications, run tenders, manage contracts and monitor performance.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in procurement, purchasing or supply chain.
• Construction or housebuilding compliance knowledge, ideally within a maintenance function.
• Strong knowledge of the full procurement lifecycle and sourcing methodologies.
• Experience managing tendering activities and supporting contract negotiations.
• Experience managing supplier relationships and contract performance.
• Strong commercial awareness with ability to identify savings and efficiencies.
• Excellent analytical skills for data-driven decision making.
• Strong IT skills including MS Office and procurement systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across levels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy.
• Degree-level qualification.
• CIPS membership or working towards a procurement qualification.
• Experience of procurement projects across multiple spend categories and locations.
• Knowledge of contract management, governance and financial compliance processes.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Supply Chain and Category Managers with procurement activities across spend categories.
• Lead and support procurement exercises including market testing, RFIs, RFQs, ITTs and mini-competitions.
• Provide procurement guidance and support to internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with operational teams to develop specifications and evaluate supplier responses.
• Manage supplier relationships and support contract performance reviews.
• Identify opportunities to achieve commercial savings and value for money.
• Maintain procurement workplans, project trackers and savings reports.
• Support procurement initiatives across construction materials, repairs and maintenance materials, warehouse services and waste management.
• Assist with benchmarking, market analysis and value engineering opportunities.
• Drive process improvements and innovative procurement solutions and systems.
• Support supplier onboarding and ensure procurement governance.
