Job description

Job Title:Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager
Location:South East (covering Kent to Hampshire)
Working Hours:37 hours per week (Hybrid working – approx. 3 days on-site, 2 days remote)

Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to join a forward-thinking organisation at a pivotal time of environmental change and infrastructure development. This is a regional leadership role, managing a team of three advisors across the South East and playing a key part in driving performance, engagement, and continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellbeing standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of a team of HSW Advisors.

  • Support the Head of Department in delivering the HSW strategy and ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.

  • Act as a role model, promoting core values, safety culture, and behavioural excellence.

  • Take ownership of HSW risks and hazards and ensure they are managed in line with the organisation’s Safety Management System.

  • Champion continuous improvement in HSW performance using a combination of leading and lagging indicators.

  • Strengthen the quality and effectiveness of incident investigations and root cause analysis.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders, supply chain partners, and external regulators.

  • Participate in the HSW on-call rota to provide 24/7 incident response support on a rotational basis.

Requirements:

  • NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent is essential.

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) is desirable.

  • Proven experience in a health and safety leadership role, ideally within the utilities or infrastructure sector.

  • Experience managing teams and coaching staff to improve performance.

  • Strong working knowledge of risks associated with chemical and toxic gas environments.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across the South East.
