Employed by London Borough of Camden, the Health & Safety Manager will be based in North London Waste Authority (NLWA), serving Camden and six other north London boroughs that make up its membership.

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Lead to play a pivotal role in one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure projects-the redevelopment of the Edmonton EcoPark under the North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP).

As the Health & Safety Lead, you will be instrumental in driving a strong safety culture across the programme. You will take ownership of health and safety performance, ensuring that best practices are embedded throughout all phases of the project-from design and construction to commissioning and decommissioning.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Oversight of observation and incident reporting, ensuring timely and effective responses.
  • Planning and closing out audits, maintaining compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Implementing training and communication initiatives to promote awareness and engagement.
  • Maintaining a consistent on-site presence to monitor safety practices and provide guidance.
  • Producing regular Health & Safety reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing document control systems to ensure accurate and accessible safety records.
  • Supporting the Senior Leadership Team with data-driven insights and strategic advice.
  • Collaborating across internal workstreams and with external partners, including London Energy Limited (LEL), to ensure alignment and consistency in safety standards.

In addition to operational duties, the postholder will contribute to the Social Value and Governance agenda, advising on Health & Safety matters and supporting broader NLWA initiatives.

This role reports directly to the Energy Recovery Facility Project Director and offers a unique opportunity to influence the safety performance of a nationally significant infrastructure project that will serve north London for decades to come.

About You

You are a qualified and proactive Health & Safety professional with a strong background in the construction or infrastructure sector. With a NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (or equivalent), you bring a solid understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management, and industry best practices. Additional certifications such as IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS, or First Aid are highly desirable.

You have a proven track record in implementing and maintaining robust health and safety systems, conducting audits, leading incident investigations, and promoting a "Safety First" culture. Your excellent communication skills and collaborative approach enable you to build strong relationships with stakeholders and influence positive outcomes across complex programmes.

Highly organised and detail-oriented, you are confident using digital tools like Microsoft Forms, SharePoint, and document control systems to streamline reporting and data management. You thrive in dynamic environments, contribute to strategic decision-making, and are committed to continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellbeing.

If you are ready to take on this challenging and rewarding role, apply now and join us in making a positive impact on our workplace!
