We're looking for a passionate Regional Engagement Officer South Wales to join our Group Corporate Affairs team! The External Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement team is responsible for managing and leveraging relationships with political, business, and media stakeholders across the region, telling NGED's story, and creating a favourable policy environment for the company's priorities.

The Corporate Affairs department is responsible for protecting, preserving, and enhancing the reputation of the National Grid. Electricity Distribution Corporate Affairs (EDCA), as a group function, acts as a dedicated support service to the Electricity Distribution Business (NGED), serving 20 million customers across the Midlands, South West, and Wales.

This role is based out of our Cardiff or Bristol office. We hope to see you at least two days per week, but you're welcome to be in the office more often if that suits you. We are open to discussing additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements to help make this job work for you!

What You'll Do
  • Support the delivery of public affairs and community engagement campaigns, including engaging with external stakeholders such as MPs, Senedd Members, Metro Mayors, Councillors, trade associations, and business groups to improve National Grid's reputation and influence.
  • Manage MP, MS, Councillor, and stakeholder casework, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and that the stakeholder management system is used effectively to track communications.
  • Represent NGED in Wales and the South West at events, conferences, and public meetings, ensuring the company's voice is heard and its reputation protected.
  • Maintain an up-to-date stakeholder map of Welsh and South West license areas to identify influential figures for engagement.
  • Support the Stakeholder Engagement team in maintaining external contacts and sharing intelligence to deliver company priorities.
  • Draft and edit messages and produce engaging content for various communication channels, including blogs, intranet, speaking notes, Q&A materials, scripts, and presentations.
  • Assist in delivering public affairs and community engagement campaigns, including messaging, stakeholder mapping, and planning.
  • Contribute to government and regional consultations, parliamentary inquiries, and prepare briefing materials and reports.
  • Develop materials for business representations to committees, debates, and influential events.
  • Collaborate with the wider Corporate Affairs team on campaigns, projects, and communications content.
What You'll Have
  • Degree or postgraduate qualification preferred but not essential; relevant experience is also valuable.
  • Strong understanding of Welsh and South West politics and stakeholder networks within NGED.
  • Knowledge of UK political environment, including devolved government machinery.
  • Experience working with internal stakeholders in large organizations, influencing and collaborating effectively.
  • Proven success in public affairs activities and stakeholder event management.
  • Experience with policy responses and parliamentary inquiries, with clear communication of complex issues.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, able to produce high-quality content under deadlines.
  • Creative, adaptable, and able to tailor messages for different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Experience working with senior managers in a multi-stakeholder environment.
