Job summary

Mitie Care & Custody in the UK is looking for Registered Nurses (Adult) or Paramedics to support custody suites alongside police custody teams. This bank-style role offers flexible shifts and a chance to care for detainees while developing clinical and forensic skills.

You’ll work across base custody sites and an assigned regional area, with responsibilities including medication administration, fitness-to-detain assessments, and high-quality record-keeping on our systems. Training provided.

Qualifications

• 2 years post-qualification experience required for RN/RGN or Paramedic.
• Band 5 minimum for RN/RGN (Adult) or RMN with dual registration.
• UK resident for 3 years with no gaps >3 months.
• Driving Licence required and police vetting will be performed.

Responsibilities

• Assess detainees' physical and mental healthcare needs while in custody.
• Administer medications when needed and document actions clearly.
• Work with Liaison and Diversion teams to address root causes.
• RecordCare in computerised systems and support across shifts.

Job description

You will be working alongside the Police in custody suites caring for detainees, you can have a career within the criminal justice system helping some of the most vulnerable people in society?

We require Registered (Adult) Nurses / RGNs, or Paramedics with 2 years' post qualification experience, who want to deliver gold standard care and be a proud part of a team who has this vision with a real passion for developing clinical, forensic and wider skills.

You must have the flexibly work not only in your base Custody suite but across an assigned region in the Police Custody Suites and Force area.

What can you expect to earn?

• £24.50 per hour minimum 2 x 12 hr shifts per month

Experience - Essential

• RN, RGN or (RMN with dual registration):2 years post qualification - Band 5 minimum

• Paramedic 2 years post qualification.

• Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a patient-facing role within a relevant field: General Practice, A & E, Emergency Medicine, acute medicine, Walk in Centres, Substance Misuse Services, Prison Healthcare or Ambulance Service

Licence/Certification:

• HCPC/NMC (required)

• Driving Licence (required)

• Must be a UK resident for 3 years + no gaps out of country more than 3 months

• All candidates will be subject to Police Vetting

What does the role involve?

The custody suites can be an energetic place to work, with no two shifts the same. Whilst detained, we provide individuals with all their physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs, as well as gather any forensic samples needed by the police to aid their investigations. Making careful records on our computerised systems, you will be assessing whether people are fit to be detained or released, administering medications when needed, and working with local Liaison and Diversion teams to address root cause issues that can prevent future crime.
