Job summary

Mitie Group plc. is seeking Registered Nurses (Adult) or Paramedics to work in custody suites alongside the Police, delivering gold-standard care to detainees.

Roles require 2 years post-qualification experience, HCPC/NMC registration, and a UK driving licence, with vetting and residency requirements in place. Shifts vary across regions; expect flexible work across base and additional custody suites as operational needs dictate.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (Adult) / RGNs with 2 years post-qualification experience.
• Paramedic with 2 years post-qualification experience.
• HCPC/NMC registration is required, UK driving licence also required.
• UK resident for at least 3 years with no gaps longer than 3 months; police vetting will be carried out.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality physical, mental health and wellbeing care to detainees in custody suites.
• Administer medications when needed and record care on computerised systems.
• Assess fitness to be detained or released and liaise with Diversion teams to address root causes.
• No previous forensic experience required; full training will be provided.

You will be working alongside the Police in custody suites caring for detainees, you can have a career within the criminal justice system helping some of the most vulnerable people in society?

We require Registered (Adult) Nurses / RGNs, or Paramedics with 2 years' post qualification experience, who want to deliver gold standard care and be a proud part of a team who has this vision with a real passion for developing clinical, forensic and wider skills.

You will be expected to work flexibly across your assigned region, supporting not only your base Custody Suite but also other Police Custody Suites and the wider Force area as operational needs dictate.

What can you expect to earn?

• £20.50 per hour 1-2 shifts
• £22.50 per hour 3-5 shifts
• £24.50 per hour 6+ shifts

Experience - Essential

• RN, RGN or (RMN with dual registration):2 years post qualification - Band 5 minimum

• Paramedic 2 years post qualification.

• Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a patient-facing role within a relevant field: General Practice, A & E, Emergency Medicine, acute medicine, Walk in Centres, Substance Misuse Services, Prison Healthcare or Ambulance Service

Licence/Certification:

• HCPC/NMC (required)

• Driving Licence (required)

• Must be a UK resident for 3 years + no gaps out of country more than 3 months

• All candidates will be subject to Police Vetting

What does the role involve?

The custody suites can be an energetic place to work, with no two shifts the same. Whilst detained, we provide individuals with all their physical, mental healthcare and wellbeing needs, as well as gather any forensic samples needed by the police to aid their investigations. Making careful records on our computerised systems, you will be assessing whether people are fit to be detained or released, administering medications when needed, and working with local Liaison and Diversion teams to address root cause issues that can prevent future crime.
