Job summary

Avery Healthcare is seeking a Regional Bank Chef to support the daily culinary operations across Birmingham and surrounding homes. You will be responsible for delivering nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals within budget while travelling to multiple sites.

The role involves leading and mentoring kitchen staff, planning menus, placing orders with approved suppliers, ensuring food safety, and contributing to a caring, resident-focused service across our care homes.

Qualifications

• Experience in managing a busy kitchen.
• Minimum of 5 years culinary experience.
• NVQ 3 in Food Production or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of health and safety and COSHH.

Responsibilities

• Prepare nutritionally balanced menu plans for approval by the Home Manager within budget and with dietary considerations.
• Place food orders with approved suppliers while maintaining stock levels and cost controls.
• Supervise and direct kitchen staff and training of unqualified staff.
• Follow the Avery Food Safety Management system and uphold high hygiene standards.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Regional Bank Chef, your primary responsibility will be supporting the daily operations of the culinary department. You will manage and guide a culinary team dedicated to providing nutritionally balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality meals that enhance the overall well-being of the residents while staying within budget. The role will involve travelling to various homes across the north.

Other responsibilities will include:

• Prepare nutritionally balanced menu plans for approval by the Home Manager, which provide varied, nutritious, and appetising meals for residents. Take account of any special dietary needs and retain records for inspection purposes.
• Place food orders, subject to appropriate levels of authority, with approved suppliers, complying with procedures to maintain proper stock levels and control, ensuring good quality provisions are purchased within agreed budget limits
• Supervise and direct the work of other kitchen staff and the Host team, and instruct and demonstrate simple food preparation activities to unqualified staff.
• Understand the Avery Food Safety Management system and demonstrate the principles of safe food handling to ensure all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen is to the highest standards of hygiene

• Experience in managing a busy kitchen and a minimum of 5 years culinary experience
• Knowledge of health and safety, as well as current food safety legislation.Knowledge of COSHH and managing the cleaning of the culinary department to 5-star rating standards
• NVQ 3 in Food Production or equivalent/City and Guilds 706-1 706-2 Catering qualifications /Trained in IDDSI /textured modified diets
• Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate leadership qualities
